Tarrant County Sheriff Bill WaybournWhile her car was being searched, the warrant says, Lyles told detectives an inmate told her to call someone outside of the jail, and that person offered Lyles $200 to take the drugs in, theAccording to the sheriff’s department, investigators became aware of the smuggling after an inmate was taken to the hospital for a “medical emergency believed to be related to a narcotic overdose.” The inmate survived and made a full recovery.
“The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office takes this seriously and all those found to be involved will be held fully accountable, including criminal prosecution where evidence leads to charges,” the department said in a written release.The investigation is ongoing, and Waybourn told the TV station more arrests are possible.
“We poured a lot of resources into it, a serious investigation,” Waybourn said. “We still have several people of interest we are looking at.”
