Graham Gomm absconded from Wormwood Scrubs on a trip to Hammersmith Hospital, located on the same street A prisoner who escaped from a London hospital has been arrested and returned to prison, the Metropolitan Police has said.Gomm, who has been on remand for burglary offences, was taken to Hammersmith Hospital by prison staff after being taken unwell, but was found to have absconded at around 1:18am.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed on Saturday that he had been arrested in Putney at around 8:30am and returned to prison.Gomm is the second prisoner to abscond from the Victorian jail on a trip to hospital in three years. Manray Woolfall, then 23, escaped on foot as he was transferred to a mental health facility in west London in November 2021. A manhunt was launched and he was taken back into custody.
Woolfall was subsequently found guilty of attacking a London Underground passenger with a bike tool and handed a hospital order.in south London, where he was on remand awaiting trial on terrorism charges. His disappearance sparked a nationwide police search, as he evaded capture for three days before being arrested in Northolt, west London.
