The estate of Meghan McAndrew claims the Northumberland County Prison staff failed to properly monitor her to prevent the suicide.
The estate of a woman who committed suicide in the Northumberland County Prison in February blames her death on the failure of staff to follow procedures for inmates on suicide watch.
The estate alleges corrections staff failed to check on her for three hours and she was found unresponsive in her cell early on Feb. 11 with a sheet around her neck. The county on March 29 declared a state of emergency at the prison because it had only 32 corrections officers with an inmate population of more than 220.
County Commissioner Samuel J. Schiccatano said he has not seen the complaint so he cannot make a comment.
