U.S. intelligence agencies would be permitted to hire job applicants who have used marijuana in the past, under a bill that passed a Senate committee

in the past, under legislation that passed a Senate committee this week, according to congressional aides.

The measure, approved unanimously by the Senate Intelligence Committee on Wednesday, would bar the Central Intelligence Agency, the National Security Agency, and others from disqualifying candidates solely based on past marijuana use, aides said. The potential easing of the prohibition on past marijuana use is contained in a provision in the annual intelligence authorization act, a bill that is generally viewed as must-pass because it authorizes funding and sets policy for the U.S.
