Microsoft has announced that it'll be rebranding Xbox Live Gold in September to 'Game Pass Core' - and scrapping free monthly games from that tier.
Since Xbox Live Gold is needed to access online multiplayer, this seemed to suggest that the feature would become completely free, much like how it is forHowever, it sounds like that’s not quite the case. Rather than scrap the Xbox Live Gold service, Microsoft is apparently rebranding it into a new Game Pass tier dubbed Xbox Game Pass Core.
Despite the name change, it will function almost exactly like Xbox Live Gold, offering online multiplayer for the same subscription fee. So, you don’t need to worry about it being more expensive. Any current Xbox Live Gold subscribers will also automatically be converted to the Core tier when it launches on September 1.
However, since it’ll be part of Game Pass, Core subscribers will be able to take advantage of Game Pass exclusive discounts and gain access to over 25 Xbox games at no extra cost.
