Yankees parted ways with outfielder in August
Asked about his mindset regarding transitioning from New York to Cincinnati, Bader admitted that he’s not focused on that right now.
“No, you just reserve the emotions as best you can in a given situation and focus on what’s in front of you, which was playing meaningful baseball down the stretch in September,” Bader said, via“Obviously for a different organization, but as long as you just focus on the ball, which is my main focus, all the emotion goes out the window. So I’ll think about it in the offseason and reassess and go from there.
On Aug. 29, Bader found out 10 minutes before a game that the Yankees put him on waivers from a television in a clubhouse kitchen. Then he went out and played all nine innings in a“Growing up in Manhattan, my family lives in Bronxville, I went to Horace Mann on 242nd street,” Bader said outside the Yankees clubhouse after hearing the news. “Obviously, Yankee Stadium is on 161st St. in the Bronx. You know, I never thought I’d play in the big leagues let alone in the Yankees uniform.
“That said, it just means so much to me to be a New York City kid playing in the Bronx for the Yankees. There’s a lot of good moments. Man, that was special. Unlike the Yankees, who are 6 1/2 games back in the AL Wild Card race, the Reds are just a half-game back from a postseason spot in the NL.
