“This is not normal. This is a clear conflict of interest,” said Yonkers Councilwoman Corazon Pineda Isaac, a Democrat who is challenging Spano in the Democratic primary.Ron Matten, a Republican who ran for council in 2021, blamed the suspension of term limits for expanding the Spanos’ influence in city government.
Spano’s sister-in-law Jaime McGill Spano is executive director of the Yonkers Industrial Development Agency.Another Spano brother, former state Sen. Nick Spano, has a lobbying firm, Empire Strategies, whose clients have business before the IDA, including receiving tax abatements, according to the report.Seven Spano nieces and nephews were hired in civil service jobs since he took office in 2012.
