Iain Armitage details how involved The Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons was in kicking off Young Sheldon. Due to the geek-centric sitcom's popularity, CBS looked to further capitalize on it by launching a spin-off in 2017. As the title suggests, Young Sheldon tackles the titular character's childhood years living with his parents in Texas before he moved and settled in Pasadena in The Big Bang Theory.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Despite featuring a different actor to portray Sheldon Cooper, Parsons remains instrumental in Young Sheldon. Aside from producing the show, he also provides the narration in the prequel show as an older Sheldon years after the end of The Big Bang Theory.
He primarily worked with me just kind of on the pilot and like the first couple episodes of season 1. But yeah, he would do the lines with the other cast members the way Sheldon would, just to sort of give you an idea of that, or kind of talking about the way Sheldon thinks, or acts, or behaves.
In its first two years, Young Sheldon aired back-to-back with The Big Bang Theory. But ever since the geek-centric sitcom wrapped up its run in 2019, its prequel series has been on its own, and while it hasn't reached the same popularity as its parent show, Young Sheldon has become CBS' premiere comedy.
Ultimately, Parsons approach was more helpful than simply coaching Armitage on how to act and speak as Sheldon. By showing the then-nine-year-old child star, The Big Bang Theory actor was more effectively able to demonstrate how to play the character without forcing his contemporary to simply impersonate him.
