Several readers voice their opposition to the plan to build a tunnel from the San Antonio International Airport to downtown. The Alamo Regional Mobility Authority would be well advised to select “scrap the idea altogether.”
When a public authority’s stated goal is to seek creative moneymaking projects to get into a revenue stream we should all look closely at why the authority even exists. Why would any sane person think we need a tunnel to shuttle travelers from the airport to downtown? It takes 10 to 15 minutes for a car/taxi to drive to your downtown destination.
If you take a Tesla vehicle in the proposed tunnel, you’ll end up at somewhere downtown and then need a taxi to your final destination. This would add time and money to your trip.Puro PoliticsUnbelievable! This tunnel project is probably the most ridiculous idea I have seen entertained by this city in my 50 years living here.
First, it’s only a 20-minute cab or Uber ride as it is now. I love a scenic drive upon arrival at my destination. I like seeing the development along the route and especially look forward to the look of the downtown buildings. In our case, the Tower Life Building, the Tower of the Americas, the Frost Bank Building and others. Who wants to be in a tunnel and see nothing?
I see no reason for this concept. No reason for spending close to $300 million. I implore the Alamo Regional Mobility Authority to scrap the idea altogether.
