Videos that push baseless, disproven assertions—that vaccines cause chronic health conditions like cancer and infertility, inject recipients with tracking devices and don’t prevent the spread of disease—The policy was needed because misinformation about Covid-19 vaccines had increasingly “spill[ed] over into misinformation about vaccines in general,” the company said.
Videos about vaccine policies, trials and the successes or failures of past vaccines will continue to be allowed, as will “personal testimonials,” the company said, as long as the content doesn’t break other YouTube rules or belong to a channel that “show[s] a pattern of promoting vaccine hesitancy.”
As part of the policy, YouTube is also removing channels for “several well-known vaccine misinformation spreaders,” a spokesperson told, including several members of the Disinformation Dozen, a label given by the Center for Countering Digital Hate to the
