Update: The wildfire in the Campbell Park area of Anchorage is now 25% contained.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A large wildfire is burning in the Campbell Park area of Anchorage.
The fire, north of Dowling Road and west of Elmore Road, has grown to five acres and is 25% contained, according to an update from the. OEM earlier reported that the fire was up to 10 acres, but said it was five acres after walking the scene, according to Anchorage Director of Communication Corey Young.
OEM said 17 Anchorage Fire Department units, two helicopters, three air tankers, the Division of Forestry and JBER fire crews are on the scene.“Air operations have been effective on knocking back the fire, but crews are still working a large ground area while tankers and helicopters are making continued drops,” OEM wrote in their update. “No evacuation is in place at this point but APD had been in contact with residents close to the fire. There is no threat to structures right now.
