Aaron Ramsdale says Harry Maguire is one of England’s best defenders and his errors are being ‘overhyped’ due to the selection order he finds himself in at Manchester United.
Maguire’s squad selection for the international break was not met with surprise given Southgate’s history of loyalty towards players who have performed well during his reign, although it was nevertheless questioned by many given his status as fourth-choice centre-half at Old Trafford.Ramsdale, who was earning his fourth cap for England, said criticism of Maguire was misplaced and was only being critiqued due to his status under Erik ten Hag.
Ramsdale added: “Harry Maguire, as we’ve seen for the past few years for England, is one of the best defenders we’ve got. He’s so strong mentally, he’s got a great group of people around him and his family and he knows his qualities.
