In lieu of a particular inspiration or seasonal theme for Spring 2020, Sarah Burton wanted to convey a sense of community and togetherness. For the impactful Alexander McQueen show she presented in Paris, these values took form in dresses designed with help from the company's employees across different departments, including HR and security. Burton also tapped students from Central Saint Martins to assist, as well as farms and mills from Ireland and Northern England.
Additionally, she utilized plenty of upcycled fabrics including lace, organza, and tulle to design this collection, and recycled old patterns from past McQueen collections to create new, one-of-a-kind pieces. It was a powerful lesson on community-building, camaraderie, and sustainability.
