Tennis hero Sir Andy Murray has been immortalised in a striking new 20-foot mural in his hometown of Dunblane.
The stunning work, at Dunblane Sports Club where the three-time Grand Slam winner first picked up a racket, was nearing completion as the Observer went to print yesterday – with tennis coach Sandy Fleming revealing that he’d already spotted one member of the Murray family checking it out.
Proud mum Judy told the Observer she hopes the mural inspires more youngsters to follow in Andy’s footsteps. And Sandy revealed that Dunblane had to fight off competition to avoid it being created almost 5,000 miles away. “The artists are working purely off an image on an iPhone and they’ve spray painted all of it in the finest Scottish summer weather. They’ve had to deal with gales, pouring rain and 10 degree heat. But they’ve worked 12 or 13 hour days to get it done.”
