£5m boost from Andy Burnham's kitty
Funding amounting to nearly £5m for improvements to cycling and walking routes in Trafford has been approved. The Mayor’s Challenge Funding has come via Greater Manchester Combined Authority’s Bee Network Committee and will boost safety on Seymour Grove and Chester Road at Trafford Bar.
Trafford council has ambitious plans to create a North Active Travel Corridor, spanning from the M60 junction 7 through Stretford, along the A56 to Talbot Road and A56 Old Chester Road to the Cornbrook junction, and along Streford Road, where it connects with Manchester city council’s infrastructure.
Improving access to places of work, education, leisure facilities and key public transport points around the area forms part of Trafford council’s Walking, Cycling and Wheeling Strategy to enable 90 per cent of all journeys under one mile to be made on foot, on a bike or using a wheeled item such as a wheelchair or scooter. Work is expected to start on the Seymour Grove junction later this year.
