The garments were given to their grandfather
An Antiques Roadshow expert asked two women if they would be happy to repatriate clothing they had brought in to have valued. Ronnie Archer-Morgan looked over the items at Crystal Palace in London during a recent episode.
The episode was the second episode of the new Antiques Roadshow series currently being shown at 8pm on Sundays on BBC One following a format change and a redesign for the Fiona Bruce-led series. The women brought a coat and trousers embroidered with gold to be valued by Ronnie Archer-Morgan, who told the pair: "Salassie actually worked very closely with colonial Britain, hence the relationship with your grandfather, which is attested to here in these documents.
To be repatriated in this context means to return items, usually of cultural significance, to their country of origin. Recently there has been debate over Britain's refusal to repatriate the Elgin marbles to Greece.
