In 2016, the doors of the National Museum of African American History and Culture officially opened in Washington D.C.

In the first section of the short film titled, "Bury Me In A Free Land", the film begins with commentary from actor Glynn Turman explaining the significance of the Slavery Abolition Act and how it would affect the United States' fight against slavery, specifically how it influenced Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. Afterward, Turman transitions into his fictional character in which he plays a father walking with a young girl as they enjoy their freedom.

On The Pulse Of Morning The third section titled "On The Pulse of Morning", begins with Lupita Nyong'o providing commentary on the day in which Barack Obama became the Democratic presidential nominee for the 2008 presidential election.
