Dr. Simone Gold and an associate, John Herbert Strand, were indicted last year on a felony charge of obstruction in the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection.

Dr. Simone Gold during a speaking engagement in Jenks, Texas, in June 2021.

Gold said little at Thursday's hearing before a U.S. District Court judge for the District of Columbia beyond "yes, your honor" and asking him to refer to her as Dr. Gold, rather than Ms. Gold. Gold is the founder America’s Frontline Doctors, a right-wing political organization known for spreading misinformation about the COVID-19 pandemic. The group, which bills itself as "America's premier civil liberties group," gained a following in the summer of 2020 by promoting the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for the coronavirus.
