A poll of 2,000 adults revealed the top 20 gripes people have when it comes to spending the day at the seaside - with litter bugs, loud music and unruly dogs also in the list

Misbehaving dogs, people shaking sand off their towels and those feeding seagulls are among the top annoyances for beachgoers, according to a recent survey. Smoky BBQs, public displays of affection and large tents or gazebos blocking the view also made the list of pet peeves.

In response to these findings, easyJet Holidays, which commissioned the research, has enlisted TV stars Michael and Hilary Whitehall to tackle antisocial beach behaviour. The pair have created a series of etiquette signs and will also train staff on how to spot and deal with such annoyances. The study also found that 68 per cent of respondents are likely to visit a beach this summer, with relaxation , reading a book and swimming in the sea being the main reasons for doing so. However, 75 per cent of those surveyed said that a peaceful coastal environment is important to them when on holiday.

"It's time to put a stop to them. As Beach Rangers, Hilary and I are here to educate tourists on the common courtesies and basic do's and don'ts of beach etiquette to ensure everyone enjoys a great beach holiday this summer. And remember, never feed the seagulls. It never ends well."
