Best date to do your Christmas food shop at Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda and Morrisons to make sure you get the cheapest deals
With the countdown to Christmas well underway, many savvy shoppers are trying to pinpoint the perfect time to hit the supermarkets and tick off their festive food lists. While it might appear smart to get ahead of the rush, the best supermarket deals, especially on seasonal staples like mince pies and veg, tend to emerge mid-December.
Carrots, parsnips, swedes, and cabbages particularly become 'loss leaders' in the run-up to Christmas day, with supermarkets willing to slash prices in a bid to draw in consumers who will then splurge on other items, offsetting any losses incurred on the vegetables. "Aldi went first last year, reducing potatoes to 15p, and a range of Christmas veg to 19p in-store from Mon 18 Dec."
