Edward Coysh was serving a 10-year prison sentence for sex offences at HMP Wymott
An investigation has found that a child rapist who died in custody was not provided with adequate healthcare towards the end of his life.
The 74-year-old passed away on April 26, 2021, from cancer while a prisoner. The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman investigated his death and concluded that Coysh had received healthcare that was not equivalent to what he could have expected to receive in the community.The Ombudsman's report said: "The clinical reviewer concluded that the healthcare Mr Coysh received at HMP Wymott was not equivalent to that which he could have expected to receive in the community.
The clinical reviewer concluded that the clinical care Coysh received at HMP Wymott was variable. There were some examples of good practice but also "notable areas for improvement". On April 18, while in hospital, Coysh, formerly of Wakefield, was told that he had terminal cancer which had mainly affected his liver and lungs, YorkshireLive reports.
