A study has found turmeric spice can be just as good for easing indigestion as medicine
A new study has found that a common ingredient you’re likely to find in your spice rack may just be as good for treating indigestion as medicine. According to the research, turmeric spice can be just as effective for helping digestion issues.
Published in the BMJ Evidence-Based Medicine journal, the natural compound curcumin’s efficacy was compared with omeprazole when testing people with dyspepsia . Put to the test in a randomised, double blind controlled trial, researchers recruited 206 patients between the ages 18 to 70 with recurrent upset stomach, of whom 151 completed the study.
The groups were either given turmeric and one small dummy capsule; omeprazole ; and turmeric plus omeprazole. All of the patients had similar characteristics and indigestion scores, which was assessed using the Severity of Dyspepsia Assessment score.
