Actor Sean Wilson has reprised the role, six years after he last returned to the ITV soap amid Gail Platt's Weatherfield exit
Coronation Street has officially confirmed that Martin Platt will be back on the cobbles later this year after rumours of a return started to swirl following news of Gail Platt's departure from the famous street.
It was announced last month that the legendary actress will be stepping back from her long-running role as she reaches a mammoth 50 years at Corrie. She joined the ITV soap at 23 years old in 1974, which was 14 years after viewers were first introduced to the people of Weatherfield.READ MORE: Read more of our Coronation Street stories here
However, as Helen marks her major soap milestone, she will also be looking forward to a very different future, as she has made the difficult decision to step down from her much-loved role at the end of the year. Sean recently picked up his first bumper pile of scripts as he prepares to start shooting and said: "It was great to be invited back to Coro St again, to contribute to Helen’s exit story. We’ll have a few months to catch up with Martin and Gail again, following the ebbs and flows of the unfolding storyline.
