Inspired by a visit to Ukraine, Rodebjer created a fresh and floral folklore addition to their minimal Scandinavian universe.
Rodebjer - known for its minimalistic forms and graphic prints - introduces a folklore-inspired collection that stays true to its signature looks
. For SS21, Rodebjer finds its roots in the picturesque landscapes of Kiev, Ukraine. Inspired by the artist Paraska Plytka-Horytsvit, the Ukrainian folklore is turned into stylised forms , punctuated by an extended palette of neon yellow, hot pink, blue and green. A very colourful collection, indeed, but toned down by a strong core of neutrals, monochrome and browns, as well as clean cuts that guarantee the expected minimalistic aesthetic of the brand.
I really appreciated finding a sporty twist that emphasized the casual silhouettes, as opposed to more feminine and classy stylings. However, I'm not entirely convinced by heavy layering as summery outfits - especially the hooded sweatshirt under a long coat, which gives me an intense impression of sweating in that heatwave!
The textures are another highlight - a surprising mix of knitwear of various thickness, delicate silk, and thick brocade-looking fabrics. As the base of the collection wasn't striking enough on its own, details and accessories are adding to the result with voluminous sleeves, trims, and large bells that become a fun piece of jewellery. I personally want the silver earrings!
Regarding the format itself, the site Rodebjer created at their SS21 digital presentation, gives a generous overview of the line-up. Perhaps even too generous! Since the collection is so sophisticated through the numerous prints and colours, the result feels a bit overwhelming with a red-thread that is pretty hard to catch, if it wasn't for the inspiration pictures.
