A native San Franciscan, Yee often writes about the city and people she knows so well. Many of the scenes in “The Great Leap” take place on the courts of Chinatown, where not only her characters but also her father, a talented amateur basketball player, shot hoops. As the Beijing coach, Edwin Chin is a soft-spoken foil to Brown’s foul-mouthed character. In his sensitive, vulnerable portrayal, Chin brings to light his character’s limited life under communist rule.
Nicole Tung as Lum’s cousin does an excellent job bringing a sense of reality to her young charge while also encouraging him to follow his dream. Get ready for an emotional rollercoaster as Masquers Playhouse presents the Tony Award-winning musical “Spring Awakening.” Roster’s first season at CCCT also includes “Doctor Dolittle: A New Musical” , the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama “Fairview” and “Fiddler on the Roof” . The season also includes a special in-concert production of Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas” Dec. 22.There is more time to see Central Works’ “Boss McGreedy” at the Berkeley City Club.
