Darnay Holmes is sticking around.
Now, will Holmes thrive this season, like wide receiver— remain unclear. He was scheduled to have a $2,940,972 salary cap figure and $2.743 million salary in the final year of his rookie contract.
If it doesn’t, for whatever reason, the Giants can always put Holmes or Cor’Dale Flott in the slot, with Jackson and Banks on the outside. This all depends on how Jackson performs in the slot and how Hawkins handles what is essentially a starting role in the nickel package. Holmes, a fourth-round pick in 2020, has sputtered at times throughout his career. But he earned his non-guaranteed $2.743 million salary for 2023 via a performance-based escalator tied to playing time during his first three seasons. Now, he will not make that amount in 2023.
Slayton lowered his 2022 salary from $2.54 million to $965,000, in order to stick around. That new number was the league minimum for a fourth-year player last season.
