Wounded commuters are given first aid after a shooting on a New York subway train on Tuesday morning, April 12, 2022. Multiple people were shot on the platform of a Brooklyn subway station during the Tuesday morning rush, officials said, a violent episode that heightened simmering fears about public safety as New York City struggles to recover from the pandemic.
Miraculously, the subway shooter didn’t kill anybody, though he shot 10 people in all, wounding several critically. Everyone on that car dodged a deadly bullet, literally, but the incident, however terrifying, was an anomaly. Although road-rage incidents are increasing across the country, a recent New York Times survey pinpointed Texas as the nation’s road-rage epicenter. The Dallas Police Department, for example, began tracking road-rage shootings for the first time last year. Motorists driving, and shooting, on Dallas roadways wounded 45 and killed 11.
“These guns are weapons of choice for many criminals," Biden said in a Rose Garden ceremony attended by victims and families of gun violence."We are going to do everything we can to deprive them of that choice and, when we find them, put them in jail for a long, long time."
