The families of both George Taylor, 27, and Ross Hunt, 56, are set to be among the first to receive The Elizabeth Emblem which will be given to those who have died in the line of duty.

The families of two Lanarkshire police officers who were killed in the line of duty have welcomed a new national bravery award - but say their campaign for further recognition goes on.

Ross Hunt, 56, was stabbed to death by three members of the same family in Larkhall, Lanarkshire, in 1983, while helping colleagues make an arrest, reports the Sunday Mail.READ MORE: Lanarkshire dad kicks 17-year addiction to cocaine and Valium with help of mental health groups The Taylor and Hunt families will received the new award later this year and are expected to be among the first recipients.

They say the medals should have been awarded at the time but both men’s heroism was overlooked by the authorities.
