passed their own relief package in the House in May. Now, the two sides will attempt the difficult task of reaching a compromise on what will be in the final version of the bill.
How long the federal extension will be in effect isn’t known and will likely be a sticking point. But Senate Majority Leader Mitch McDonnell described it earlier this week as “temporary.” It is likely to last at least through December, accordoing to reports. The proposal also includes coronavirus lawsuit protections, funds for testing, money to help schools restart for on-campus attendance, and a second round of Paycheck Protection Program loans for small businesses that were particularly hard-hit by the pandemic.
