A former executive is suing LaCroix and its billionaire owner’s son after a tussle over BPA-free cans
Popular sparkling-water brand LaCroix continues to run into trouble. Less than nine months after its parent company National Beverage Corp.—majority owned by billionaire—was sued for using synthetic ingredients in its “all natural” fizzy water, a former executive filed a lawsuit on June 6 claiming he was terminated in retaliation for whistleblowing.
National Beverage denies the allegations and says the suit is brought by a “former employee seeking to extract a monetary recovery from the company” and that it will vigorously defend “our company and our brands against false claims.” Dejewski, who was then the vice president of commercial development and engagement for LaCroix, agreed to address the issue with Joseph Caporella, who has been the president of National Beverage since 2002. Dejewski claims in the lawsuit that multiple senior executives and LaCroix’s general counsel had advised Caporella to not announce LaCroix cans as BPA-free because it was “misleading at best, outright false at worst.
