Landis has been with Mecum Auctions for 24 seasons, traveling across the country selling thousands of vehicles.
Auctioneer Jimmy Landis has become something of a celebrity among collector car aficionados who have known him for 24 years as the leading voice of Mecum Auctions.
As the son of an auctioneer, Landis said he always took for granted that he would go into the auction business. In 1983, Landis went to school to become an auctioneer. And in 2000, he landed a job with Mecum Auctions. Landis said speaking directly to the crowd, making each person sitting there feel like he is talking directly to them, helps him resolve any jitters while on stage.
“I like to know what we did last year on this day. What was our percentage? What was our total number? And that way I’ve got a goal for the day. So my goals are to get as much money for every car as we possibly can,” Landis said.
