Houston Astros designated hitter David Hensley is seen during batting practice before Game 1 of the World Series at Minute Maid Park on Friday, Oct. 28, 2022, in Houston.PHILADELPHIA — With veterans Aledmys Diaz and Trey Mancini combining to go 1-for-34 so far this postseason, rookie David Hensley got the call to start at designated hitter for Game 3 of the World Series.
“It’s hard to put into words, to be honest,” Hensley said Monday before the game was postponed and rescheduled to Tuesday. “It’s exciting for sure — surreal.” “You always think about it,” Hensley said before the World Series. “That’s the dream, that’s the goal — to get up to the big leagues. You keep it in the back of your mind and use it for motivation every day."
“Well, I like his approach, his aggressiveness, and his overall fight to give you a good at-bat,” Astros manager Dusty Baker said."He’ll foul off some pitches. He’ll put some others in play. He uses the whole field. He’s a guy that has risen to the occasion, especially when I had asked him to pinch hit, which is very, very tough for anybody, but especially tough for young players to pinch hit.
