One thing is clear to Amador: The Fingerjoint still has a bright future ahead.
Soon, however, they realized that they could do it differently than a typical lesbian night at a bar, that pop ups could give them a chance to bring queerness into new and unexpected spaces.
“All the lesbian parties happened at other bars that were owned by either gay men or straight couples…it would take on all the qualities of those other spaces, so all of these pop ups we would do at museums and galleries and neutral spaces, we could really place make and start from scratch and not have people being influenced by someone else’s aesthetic, someone else’s bar.”The Covid-19 pandemic hit just as they were set to begin a major fundraising campaign for The Fingerjoint’s physical space.
These past few weeks have been the first time Amador has begun to realistically think about creative ways to restart in-person events. Amador isn’t yet sure what these new spaces will look like. They could be anything from distanced, outdoor events to drive through experiences.“The future of The Fingerjoint is to have the brick-and-mortar space, to be this hub that’s always there,” they said.
