A far-right protest and anti-fascist counter-protest was held in Nottingham city centre on Saturday (August 3)
Nottinghamshire Police say 15 people were arrested in 'largely peaceful' protests that took place in Nottingham city centre yesterday . Two groups of protesters were separated by a line of police officers in King Street, just off Old Market Square , for several hours.
An anti-fascist counter-protest took place at 1pm, followed by an anti-migrant protest at 2pm. Police kept both groups apart and aside from some sporadic fighting the day mostly saw the groups trading insults rather than physical violence. Nottinghamshire Police's press office issued a statement at 9.45am on Sunday morning to say that 15 arrests had been made. Deputy Chief Constable Steve Cooper said: “I would like to thank the officers and staff who policed the event for their resilience, professionalism and skill, which ensured these protests remained largely peaceful.View gallery “The vast majority of members of the public who attended protested in a peaceful manner.
In our live coverage of the protests, reporter Louis Corbett praised the police's treatment of the potential disorder and the professionalism of officers in incredibly difficult circumstances.
