Sports-watch maker Garmin’s cyberattack is a lesson for future victims that being fleet of foot is a must, writes Three_Guineas.

Garmin said on July 27 that it experienced a cyberattack that encrypted some of its systems on July 23. This affected some online services provided by the maker of sports wearables and navigation tools, such as Garmin Connect, which lets user sync data from their devices. It also interrupted communications and customer support.

The company said it has no indication that customer data has been compromised. It also noted that its system had been restored and that services should soon return to normal function. The firm released its second quarter earnings on July 29. Revenue of $870 million declined by 9% compared to the same quarter last year, and earnings fell by about one-fifth to $184 million.
