Ambreen, 44, and her husband Calum, 34, always knew they wanted to have children but endured two years of heartache before having their two sons following lifestyle changes.
A Glasgow couple who endured two years of heartache trying to conceive and were diagnosed with unexplained infertility before having their two sons are now offering open to other couples in a similar position.
They hoped to qualify for NHS-funded fertility treatment but there was a stumbling block as Ambreen was told her BMI was only just outside of the threshold for treatment. To qualify as a private fertility patient, your BMI should be no more than 35, and to be accepted as an NHS funded fertility patient, no more than 30. Although both Ambreen and Calum - an officer in the Merchant Navy - wanted to lose weight and be fit and healthy, they weren't willing to wait to begin treatment so they decided to go to TFP GCRM Fertility.
On their first round of IVF Ambreen said: “We did start with a few successful embryos, but by transfer day only one was viable and its quality wasn’t great. I knew in my head it wouldn’t work but I knew that this was only the first try.” On this result, Ambreen said: “I was told it was quite unusual to have all the embryos score so highly given my age, we are certain that our healthy lifestyle was a contributory factor.”
After some time enjoying Magnus as a baby, they decided to try again and transfer their remaining embryo with a round of IVF in January 2022, however, this unfortunately failed.
