The Glasgow Building Preservation Trust, which is supporting the Langside Trust, says that plans are still underway to bring the building back into use despite setbacks.

The state of Glasgow's Langside Halls has been described as a 'disgrace' as vandals have targeted the historic building.

The city had committed to providing the people of the South Side with a new public building. Back on Queen Street, Hunter, Barr & Co, who now owned the plot, set about dismantling the former bank to build the impressive Guild Hall building by David Barclay that still occupies the site today. But, due to further maintenance issues, the Glasgow City Council-owned building, which is run by Glasgow Life, has remained closed. The Landside Halls Trust proposed the takeover of the site with a feasibility study commissioned to transform the site into a “commercially viable” community hub, offering a theatre and performance space as well as a venue for hire in 2020.

"We are working on bringing the building back into use with the Langside Halls Trust and council. Due to the pandemic, there have been delays since the original feasibility study of the Trust taking control of the building in 2020 with the cost of construction alone rising by 20 or 30%. The latest update in March reads: "The Board agreed that Glasgow Building Preservation Trust lead a rephrasing approach to the original feasibility study as the best chance to secure a viable way forward for the Trust to refurbish the Halls."
