Retired Jean Brooks becsme an overnight sensation on the internet with her novel approach to curbing speeding drivers back in 2017. The 64 year old Hucknall resident took a stand in her front garden, wielding a hairdryer as a mock speed gun, aiming it at passing vehicles.
Jean explained that her campaign started after a personal loss, reports Nottinghamshire Live. Following the death of her son-in-law, she dedicated herself to raising funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care by setting up a cafe right in her front garden on St Mary's Way, Hucknall. "I remembered a friend told me about something she had heard of in France," Jean recounted. "Someone got their hairdryer and pointed it at the cars and they slowed down. So I thought I'll do that."
Chatting to the Post from her garden cafe back in 2017, Jean was greeted with smiles and waves from pedestrians, and supportive honks from drivers who acknowledged her initiative."I was listening to the radio and they were talking about these kids who were riding around on bikes," she recalled.
