Liverpool's growing Malayali community enjoys sharing their culture
A Liverpool Malayalee-Muslim Cultural Association from Kerala, one of over 25 Indian states located on the south western Indian coast, enjoy celebrating their culture. The Keraliites speak Malayalam, which is one of the many languages spoken across India, which includes Hindi, Gujarati and Manipuri.
Rafeeque Olikkathodi told the ECHO: 'We aim to create a sense of community and a sense of belonging to our home, Liverpool. We are a diverse group of individuals from various socioeconomic backgrounds and professions including entrepreneurs, doctors, engineers, teachers etc have over 150 members. 'We traditionally hold two large cultural events a year. These are attended by 150-200 people.
said: 'To give the next generation the confidence that comes from knowing the beauty and strength of their roots and learning our indigenous wisdom.
