Clair McCluskie, who was employed at Burnbank Medical Centre in Hamilton, was convicted of the thefts at Hamilton Sheriff Court on August 8, last year.

A Lanarkshire nurse has been struck off after using bank cards stolen from two patients to pay for fuel and groceries.

McCluskie would then use a bank card to fraudulently buy goods worth £9.96 at B&M, in Blantyre, before spending a further £32.00 at Morrison’s Petrol Station in Bathgate. The nurse then stole patient B's debit card on August 10.READ MORE: Glasgow gran 'terrified' of rats as disgusting vermin cause misery for Townhead residents

The NMC received the referral on August 31, from the practice manager after a meeting on August 12. However, when patient B reported a second theft on August 10, Police Scotland decided to charge the nurse on August 26. The NMC noted in their report that McCluskie had claimed to have stolen the cards as she was experiencing financial difficulty at the time and 'had no money for petrol and would have been unable to get to work the following day'. They also said that her insight into the incidents was 'self-centred' and found there was a risk of repetition.
