Parents are worried
Teachers across Lancashire are being urged to be aware of the symptoms of Strep A as the number of fatalities related to the bacteria continues to rise, with parents ready to take their children out of classrooms if cases are confirmed in their schools.
"It seems that every day another child dies and I'll be completely honest and say that I wouldn't hesitate in taking [my daughter] out of school if they confirmed there's been a case. The council can fine me if they want but some things are more important." Wigton Group Medical Practice has been one of several across Lancashire and Cumbria report receiving "lots of calls" from parents concerned their child has Strep A. The surgery's team saw 15 children on Monday which practice bosses saying this was "over and above" the normal number of youngsters being seen.
"If your case is deemed inappropriate for the Duty Team, the Receptionist Team will contact you to make a more appropriate appointment. Please do not be rude to the Receptionist as they are only doing what the Clinicians have asked them to do."
