Sir Ian Cheshire, the Channel 4 chairman who has been heavily involved in talks about the broadcaster’s now-abandoned privatisation, is the leading candidate to take the helm of Bluewater shareholder Landsec, Sky News learns.
Sir Ian became chairman of Channel 4 nine months ago, and has been heavily involved in the broadcaster's discussions with the government about its now-abandoned privatisation.
One insider said that Sir Ian, who is also a non-executive director of BT Group, may elect to relinquish one or more of his other boardroom posts if his appointment at Landsec is confirmed. Rising interest rates have also had an effect, with Landsec reporting last autumn a £192m pre-tax loss for the six months to the end of September. It has also made a number of recent acquisitions, including the purchase of an additional 25% stake in Bluewater in December 2021 for £172m.
