National Highways said there are diversions in place from junction 27 of the motorway
The M6 is set to be closed for hours after the body of a woman was found. The M6 between junction 27 and junction 26 is fully closed following the incident which happened at around 1.25am today, Friday, August 16. Police said they received a call for a concern for welfare of a woman in the early hours of this morning. However, when emergency services arrived at the scene they found the body of a woman.
In an earlier statement, police said they had been responding to a report 'of a person falling from a bridge'. The carriageway has been closed since 2am and National Highways said due to the nature of the incident 'police complex investigation works continue' and the carriageway will not be able to re-open until these have taken place. It added there is currently no estimated time of re-opening.
