Which Northeast Ohio restaurant makes your favorite mac 'n' cheese? See the judges' and people's choice winners of this year's Mac ‘N’ Cheese Throwdown:
The “Classic” category challenged chefs to create classic, vegetarian-friendly versions. Meanwhile “Modern Mac” had no rules. Entries varied in noodle shape and cheese used. The modern category included versions with bacon, kimchi, brisket, chorizo and Fritos, mushrooms, peppers and so much more., a nonprofit organization that trains and provides mobility and autism service dogs to empower children with special needs throughout 35 counties of northeast and central Ohio.
“I thought the event was great fun,” she said. It was lovely to sample mac ‘n’ cheese from so many restaurants, many of which I’ve never tried. We even discussed future ideas for the event with organizers, such as macaroni art, an eating contest, and a fashion runway.” She pronounced, “My friends and I agreed that Viking Food Co. prepared the best mac--it was creamy, flavorful, and definitely worth a return visit.”for upcoming fundraising activities. If you missed the Mac ‘N’ Cheese Throwdown in Cleveland, check out the Mac ‘N’ Cheese Shuffle in downtown Willoughby from 12:30 to 3 p.m., April 18. Tickets get attendees a passport listing 12 locations in the city center. Each location will serve up its best mac and cheese dish, and also offer a drink special.
“I’m really grateful to be partnering with downtown Willoughby this year,” says Sera Nelson, executive director of W.A.G.S. 4 kids and and self-proclaimed “Queen of Mac ‘n’ Cheese. “Now that they’re working with the Queen of Mac ‘n’ Cheese, we’re going to make sure it’s bigger and better than before.”
