Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has expressed doubts about Tyrell Malacia's long-term future at the club, citing his lack of attacking contribution as a wing-back. Malacia's recent performances have been underwhelming, prompting speculation about a potential loan move. The article delves into Amorim's comments, Malacia's struggles, and the impact of upcoming signings on his playing time.

Ruben Amorim has cast doubt on Tyrell Malacia's long-term future at Manchester United, stating that the Dutch defender lacks the attacking quality to excel as a wing-back in his tactical system. Malacia, who made his fifth start since recovering from an 18-month knee injury against FCSB on Thursday, was substituted at halftime for the fourth consecutive time.

While deployed as a left wing-back in all these matches, the 25-year-old has visibly struggled to regain his sharpness and influence games offensively, a crucial aspect Amorim seeks in players occupying that position.Malacia's prospects at Old Trafford appear limited, with the imminent arrival of 20-year-old Dane Patrick Dorgu from Lecce. Amorim believes Malacia's current skillset doesn't align with the demands of a wing-back role. Although he hinted at a potential future in a back three, this scenario seems contingent upon United adopting a more possession-based and controlling style of play.'We will see,' Amorim stated when questioned about Malacia's future. 'What I know is that it's really hard on Malacia. It is a long time without playing, and then it's hard to play a lot of games. 'A player like him is a full-back. He played with the national team outside and inside, but sometimes in this system, sometimes it's hard for him because he's not so offensive. 'He can play as one of the three defenders, if we have more possession and more control of the games. It's a really difficult context for him. But he's our player and we are going to help him.' Malacia's path back into the starting lineup could be further challenged by the impending return from injury of Luke Shaw, who trained at Carrington on Wednesday. Despite not making the squad for the Europa League encounter or the upcoming clash against Crystal Palace, the 29-year-old's comeback offers a competitive alternative at left-back. Shaw has endured a turbulent year marred by injuries, failing to start for United since February 18, 2022. His only appearances under Amorim were three brief substitute cameos in November and December before his latest setback. United aims to carefully integrate Shaw back into the fold, with his initial focus on regaining full fitness at Carrington. Meanwhile, his teammates trained in Bucharest on Friday morning after their late-night Europa League victory, which concluded just before midnight local time
