A former chef who hit a man in the face with an axe causing significant injuries was today handed a 45-month sentence.
At around 10 pm, Simpson hit his victim in the face with an axe which he had brought to the flat concealed inside a black bag and hidden under a bed. The court heard police recovered CCTV which provided footage from outside the apartment following the attack. It showed Simpson fleeing from the property, and then returning to mop the floor outside.
The victim said that in order to come to Northern Ireland for the trial he had to travel through war zones. He added that as a result of the attack he lost function in his left eye and has “lost the energy to do anything”.
