The Met Office has responded to recent predictions of an 'Indian summer' for the UK, casting doubt on the prospect of an extended warm period.
Looking further ahead, their long-range forecast indicates the start of October will bring bouts of heavy rain and robust winds. "There will also be some drier interludes as well and in these, some patchy fog and frost may form at night," they added, reports the Manchester Evening News. This outlook follows a soggy end to September, which saw several weather warnings as parts of the country grappled with the effects of severe flooding. On Monday, certain areas received rainfall exceeding the monthly average, leading to flash floods that caused damage to properties and travel disruptions.
