) - Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson on Thursday announced plans to demolish the aging Mobile Civic Center and replace it with a nearly $300 million state-of-the-art facility.
Stating that all of the existing buildings will be demolished, Simpson said, “We will build a world class entertainment facility that will be unrivaled on the Gulf Coast.” According to Byrne, it would cost $242 million to renovate the center whereas the new facility will cost $296 million.He said the facility is expected to bring in an additional 400,000 visitors annually to the city for concerts, sporting events and other activities.
