Maybe this Bizarro world is actually reflective of the real\u002Dworld realities of running the health system.
This is a party that, while the NDP was in government, banned private MRIs and CT scans in Saskatchewan and once voted on a convention resolution to make it illegal for doctors to even look at CT or MRI scans if provided by an out-of-province facility.
Of course, equally bizarre is the Sask. Party’s refusal to take that private money. This is a government that’s actively encouraged private diagnostics clinics to reduce the public waitlist. It is now in a pitched battle with the federal Liberal government threatening to claw back $742,447 in health-care transfers.
Unfortunately, it seems less likely such a private MRI service would want to locate in Estevan in the province’s southeast corner, which doesn’t have the population base to support it. The ministry letter rejecting Walkom’s donation cited reasons “including but not limited to population, distance of patients from facilities, service volumes, staffing and wait times.”
