The cause of the wildfire, which contributed to the poor air quality in the area, remained under investigation.
The fire broke out around 3 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of East Commodore Boulevard and Cedar Swamp Road in Jackson and quickly spread to 50 acres by 9:30 p.m. as it threatened 30 houses and structures, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service said. The structures were now deemed safe and no damage or injuries were reported.
All roads in the area have reopened, but crews from the Forest Fire Service were expected to remain in the area to monitor conditions. If you purchase a product or register for an account through one of the links on our site, we may receive compensation.

Young, wild and free: Wolverine spotted in California for only second time in last 100 yearsA wolverine was spotted three times last month in the eastern Sierra Nevada, a rare occurrence for an animal that’s only been seen one other time in California over the last 100 years. While wolverines are native to California, they’ve been essentially extinct from the state since the 1920s — likely the result of hunting and fur trapping in the decades following the gold rush, though records from the time don’t indicate what exactly caused the population to decline. The latest wolverine appears to be a young male seeking a mate. The animal has been spotted twice in the Inyo National Forest and once in Yosemite National Park.
